Two months ago on a Sunday morning, I prayed for a young boy of the age of five. His mother reported he had been severely grinding his teeth in his sleep all night long for the past three years. In faith I prayed for the young boy, and I rebuked an evil spirit that was tormenting him. I then released God’s healing power into his body through the laying on of my hands. Later that night his mother slept next to him and she stayed awake all night long listening for any grinding, but he did not grind his teeth a single time, nor has he ever ground his teeth since. We see these and many other types of healings take place consistently.

When you pray for the sick, you must always keep your eyes on Jesus and visualize the Lord healing the people.

If the nine spiritual gifts could be considered “fun,” then I would have to think that the gift of healing is the most fun gift because it makes me so happy when others are healed. Since there are so many sick and diseased people in the church and in the world, this gift will always be in high demand and in frequent use.

Sometimes the healing is instantaneous, other times it takes a little while for the healing to fully come forth. But what joy it brings when someone has received deliverance from the devil’s torment and affliction. It’s fun to pray for the sick, especially when the healing gifts are in manifestation.

You will always have good results when you pray for people in faith and refuse to be moved by external circumstances. I have prayed for people when the gifts of healings were flowing through me. Often I have prayed for people in severe pain. I would lay my hands on them and pray for them while releasing God’s healing anointing in their body. Some would leave the prayer line in just as much pain as when they arrived. But I do not let that throw me in any way, because many of these same people would call or email me and say that the following morning when they awoke, the symptoms had completely left their bodies.

Always stay in faith and do not doubt that it is God’s will to heal—and for His people to enjoy divine health.

Paul and Silas operated in the gift of faith when they were beaten and jailed for their faith in Acts 16. Despite the impossible situations they faced, they prayed and worshipped and the supernatural power of God manifested in their midst.

Here is one instance in which the Lord gave us this supernatural gift. David and I had signed an interest-free contract to purchase a piece of property for the ministry in Guatemala for $90,000 USD. At the time of the signing we paid $50,000 down, which the Lord had miraculously provided, and agreed to pay the remaining $40,000 balance within two years. That meant every six months, for the next two years, we were to pay $10,000.

Then during a time of prayer the Lord spoke to us and said,

“I want you to start building homes and do not stop. And I do not want you to save one penny for those payments. I will provide.”

We put our natural faith into action and did as the Lord instructed us to do, but then our natural faith was replaced by a divine gift of faith.

We did not have the means in the natural to pay this bill. In fact, this was downright risky for us to do. Nevertheless, we knew we heard from God. We also knew that, in reality, this bill belonged to Him and that He was faithful, willing and able to pay the full debt for this piece of property for the ministry.

It was the week when the first $10,000 installment was due, and the owner of the property came to David and said, “I know that the payment isn’t due for a few more days, but you can pay me now if you’d like.” David looked at him and said, “I would like to do that, but I don’t have the money yet. But I will.” At first the owner thought David was joking with him, but he soon realized that David was telling him the truth. Then David testified to this man of God’s faithfulness.

A few days later, in the afternoon, we received a phone call from the mission’s office and they asked to speak to David. They said, “David, we just wanted to let you know that we just received a check in the mail for the amount of $10,000. When is that first payment due?” David answered, “Tomorrow morning!”

The remainder of the payments all came in a similar fashion and right on time.

This was a divine gift of faith that the Spirit had given to us to believe for these finances. We did not fret over those payments. We knew we received an assignment and a word from the Lord and knew that He would provide. We thanked God for His supernatural provision before His provision had manifested.

We had a peace within our spirits that He would provide. And He did.

Our key verse is again, ‘Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.’

The word, ‘inherit’ in both the New and Old Testaments means to be an heir. Simply put, heirs inherit. Because we have been engrafted into the royal line of God’s family we have become heirs, but to claim our inheritance we have to grow ‘up.’ Which, in the context of our discussion, means that we have to learn how to live in His presence. In addressing this need, the Apostle Paul writes to the Galatian church, stating,

‘Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs not from a servant, though he be lord of all.’ Galatians 4:1 (KJV Modernized)

As long as we remain ‘a child’, we are not yet ready to move into our inheritance. What then, constitutes being a child? Paul, in the same passage goes on to explain,

‘Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.’ Galatians 4:3

So a child is a person living according to the dictates of this world, evidenced by living a double life by professing one thing and doing another. Our understanding is further refined by the Apostle John, who outlines the elements of the world as, ‘the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.’

How then does a believer move to maturity and overcome the world?

The answer is rooted in meekness because, ‘Hope,’ displayed by expectantly waiting in God’s presence, overcomes the lust of the eyes, and exercising ‘Faith’ in God’s rhema word defeats issues of the flesh and the limitations of this physical realm. However, those who step through the veil into eternity, like Moses and Elijah, move beyond faith to step into knowing Christ experientially.

This is when they overcome self-glory, otherwise known as pride, by displaying a ‘Love’ that lays down its life in deference to others. These are marks of a real father. Like them, when we step through the world’s wilderness of temptation, ‘in Christ’, we are also given access to the Father’s table of provision in heaven.

To connect with God is a very essential ingredient in our pursuit of simple prayer.

If we’re believers, then Christ resides within us and we have Him dwelling in our hearts. But even though this is true for us, we must still learn to abide, which means it is a process that we will get better at over time.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

When Proverbs tells us to “acknowledge Him,” it means we are to acknowledge Christ dwelling within us, recognizing the divine intimate contact we have with Him. To connect with Him, then, means that we’re cultivating a connection with Him and an awareness of His presence within us. The more we do this, the more fully and completely we learn to abide in Him.

Our awareness of His presence increases with practice, with time spent in prayer, and by acknowledging the personhood of God dwelling within us.

Acknowledging Him is one of the goals of simple prayer. We are not just acknowledging Him as residing in heaven (which seems to put Him far away), or simply acknowledging Him with our mind (though we do this sometimes), but we are acknowledging Christ within us (which is the hope of glory).

As we develop that intimate contact with Him on a regular basis, then the promise is that He will direct our paths, which is ultimately what we want Him to do. We should all desire Him to be in charge of our life, for Him to live His life through us rather than us living our life for Him.

This connection begins in our prayer time in the morning, but staying connected is a lifelong learning process.

As the New Testament points out, our battle is not, ‘against flesh and blood’, but against, ‘spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.’

That said, to defeat a spiritual foe we need spiritual weapons.

The foundation of all spiritual weaponry is the word of God in our hearts, or as Paul puts it in outlining the Armor of God, ‘Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth…’. In this passage Paul is referring to having our hearts living in the landscape of the kingdom fed by the written word of God.

However, in that place he anticipates more: quickened scriptures, revelation, prophetic words, dreams and visions to enable us to go on the offensive with ‘…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word (rhema) of God.’

In this vein, he commands Timothy to wage war according to the prophecies that have been given him.

‘This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare.’ 1 Timothy 1:18

Now a ‘charge’ is a command not an option. It is a ‘must do.’ Every believer has times when he needs to pull out the list of prophecies, dreams, visions and quickened scriptures and ‘strengthen’ himself by supplanting all opposition with the promises of God.

The Key to Spiritual Warfare

In that place, it is critically important what comes out of our mouths. Like Joshua’s men circling Jericho we are charged that, ‘no word shall proceed out of your mouth.’ That is, no word that is contrary to what God has said should be released into the spirit realm to disempower the promises of God. This is, effectively, drawing up the garments of our loose thoughts around our hearts because we are in warfare.

In the book of Exodus, God told the Israelites that if they would hearken to His commands, He would put none of the diseases upon them that He placed upon the Egyptians, for He was the God “that healeth thee” (Exodus 15:26).

This expression is a compound word in the Hebrew language, Jehovah Rapha or Jehovah Ropheka, which means the “Great Physician” (Strong’s, H3068, H7495). Simply put, God is our Healer.

He knows exactly what it is we need and He supplies our need according to His Word.

Not only did He heal the Israelites of old, but Jesus Christ came two thousand years ago to manifest Himself on our behalf as the Healer. Jesus Christ healed all the people that were brought to Him; this was not only an act of love and compassion, but it was a fulfillment of Isaiah 54.

If Jesus is the Great Physician, then there is nothing you are facing in your body today that He is not able and willing to heal. Don’t be discouraged by whatever you are facing in your physical body; it is no match for the sovereign power of God.

There is no sickness or disease that can stand before our Great Physician. He longs to heal you and deliver you because that is who He is. Healing is God’s nature. He heals us because He loves us, and He wants us to fulfill our divine purpose in the earth.

Healing is God’s nature.

There are no limits or restrictions on His healing power. Jesus bore our sins and carried our diseases so we no longer need to bare them.

Whether it is cancer, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease, infection, or any other ailment for that matter, it does not make any difference to God. He wants you whole! Through His power you can be healed.

He wants you whole!

By faith you will stand victorious over the physical pain and infirmity in your body, and you will testify of the goodness of God in your life. Jesus is your Great Physician.

This kind of communion is about maintaining our spiritual connection with the Lord all day long. We stop seeing our prayer times as being like stops at a gas station to fill our car up, for we are continually being filled with His presence.

Picture what it would be like to be married to someone, but to limit our time together to five or ten-minute spans, once or twice a day.

What if we made our spouse stand on the front porch the rest of the time, patiently waiting until we found a few minutes that were convenient for us to get together? Who would tolerate a relationship like that? Not anyone in their right mind. Yet, that’s a pretty accurate picture of how many Christians treat their relationship with the Lord.

The Bible teaches God’s design for marriage partners to be “one flesh” and describes the parallel with our spiritual intimacy with the Lord:

“He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Cor. 6:17).

Instead of being a sporadic on-again, off-again relationship, our communion with the Lord is meant to be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

When Martha was distracted by much serving, while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening attentively, Jesus responded to Martha’s plea for help from her sister by saying,

‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.’

Luke 10:41-42 (Emphasis added)

His words capture for us three critical truths.

Firstly, that in the midst of life’s hustle the ‘one thing’ above all others that is needed is time at His feet. Such time sensitizes the listener to Heaven. It was Mary, who later recognized the Glory of God and prophetically anointed Jesus for His burial.

Next, note that Jesus says what Mary was receiving ‘will not be taken away’ from her. Only eternal things cannot be taken from us. While Mary was sitting listening to Jesus she was imbibing manna from heaven – that which comes from beyond this world – and was imbued with the very Life of God itself. It is this Living word that does not ‘fall to the ground’ but penetrates hearts.

Finally, Jesus describes Mary’s deposit as ‘good.’ The Greek word used here is, ‘Agathos’ which describes something benevolent, a thing of quality, a quality deposit that is outright beneficial to others. Wow!

On many occasions sitting at Jesus’ feet is actually more beneficial to others than meeting their immediate needs.

That is because it is not the quantity or the intensity of our words, but the quality – a ‘word in season’ – that matters. Without doubt, it was a sensitivity born in the presence of His Father that caused Jesus to respond to the question on Nicodemus’ heart before he had asked it, choose to minister to only one man at the pool of Bethesda and delay in coming to Lazarus.

One time, with my good friend Adam F. Thompson, on our return flight to Australia after an intense period of ministry. We were unwinding, watching a movie or two. I chose to watch, ‘The Karate Kid.’ When the movies had finished, Adam said to me, ‘Why did you watch that?’ I said, ‘I watched that for one line, where Mister Miyagi says to his apprentice,

“‘Being still’ and ‘doing nothing’ are not the same thing!’”

Both Martha and Mister Miyagi’s student were receiving the same lesson. Things are not always as they seem outwardly, there are two realms and it is the eternal one that has priority.

Many of us have been surprised by impulses, thoughts, and emotions that seem to come out of the blue and throw us off course. And oftentimes, we enter into sinful behavior and yield to the temptation. So there is a need to promptly reconnect with Christ in an intimate and life-giving way.

It doesn’t have to be long, drawn-out process, but it does have to be prompt and intentional.

The Bible promises that if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (see 1 John 1:9). John isn’t speaking of a process of repentance and penance that we perform to get in God’s good graces, but an instantaneous cleansing of unrighteousness, resulting in a restoration of our connection with Christ. We can once again begin to walk in fellowship with Him and with one another.

When we break fellowship with Him, however, we have an Advocate with the Father through Jesus Christ:

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world (1 John 2:1-2).

The provision for being reconnected with God quickly and effectively is the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Because of His shed blood, we can walk in an abiding lifestyle with the Father, sensing His peace and feeling His presence throughout every moment of every day.

Have you ever thought about the part you play in your own healing?

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Whosever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed…. He shall have whatsoever he saith”? Beloved, this is the power of the spoken Word.

The truth of the matter is that you and I have to participate with God in order to receive and keep our healing. God does not need our help, but He requires our participation.

God requires your participation!

Most people were raised to believe that God does all the work and they are not required to do anything. As a result, people pray, “God, heal me!” and when they don’t see anything happen, they automatically assume it wasn’t His will to heal them. The reality is that we have to come to a place where we are doing more than just praying; we have to speak to the mountain of sickness.

When Jesus said that whoever “shall say,” He was using the Greek word eipon, which at its root means to declare (Strong’s, G2036). A declaration is a formal or explicit statement or announcement, usually with the notion of authority.

We are to declare to our body that it is healed; we are to declare to our mind that it is restored.

God never said that we should pray about mountains; He said we should speak to them in faith and with authority. So no matter what you are facing today, open your mouth and make some declarations according to the Word of God.

Make a declaration according to God’s Word!

Speak to cancer and tell it to be removed. Speak to diabetes and tell it to go! You will have what you say. Remember to never negotiate with that mountain (whatever it may be), but stand your ground and prophetically declare your victory.
