Jewish Roots: Understanding your Jewish Faith – Book Review

Jewish-Roots-RevisedBackground and Theology and the Messianic Vision

Jewish Roots: Understanding your Jewish Faith is a scholarly critical revaluation of Rabbinic Judaism, its theological doctrines, its practices, and its government.. This is the fourth edition of Dr. Daniel Juster’s work.

The need for this revised and update of “Jewish Roots: Understanding your Jewish Faith” is twofold:  1. There have been significant gains in the number of scholars that support Messianic Jewish theological positions. 2. The change in the concentration of Messianic Jewish movement from North America to the Russian speaking Jewish community extending through Russian community, western Europe, Israel, and Ethiopia.

Dr. Juster also discusses the eschatological meaning of the Biblical feasts of Israel the many interpretations and their future prophetic significance. He looks at the works of Dr. E. P. Sanders, Dr. Michael Brown, and R. Kendall Soulen in his analysis of Jewish background and interpretation.  Additional helpful insights are gleaned from his consideration of the works of Markus Bochmuel, Peter Tomson, Bishop N. T. Wright, and Doulas Harink in a to introduce the reader to current thinking on uni-plural understanding.

As a result of his scholarly study of the Messiah his own Jewish roots, and the role of the church in Israel’s salvation, Dr. Juster has gained recognition as a highly recognized authority on Biblical theology from a Jewish context.

Jewish Roots: Understanding your Jewish Faith is a fascinating study for the layman, the theologian, and anyone concerned about the destiny of the Jew and the destiny of the church.
